Poseidon has undertaken an aggressive public education and outreach effort to raise awareness of desalination, the proposed Carlsbad project and the opportunities for public input during the approval process. These efforts include:

  • Pilot Plant Tours
    Visitors have an opportunity to see the desalination process demonstrated, hear why the Encina location is ideal and learn about the environmental protections inherent in the project, including protection of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon.

  • Product Sampling
    Visitors also have chance to taste the water produced at the plant and desalinated water samples have been distributed at community events and public forums.

  • Voluntary Water Quality Surveys
    Those who have sampled the water have been asked to rate it as Excellent, Good, Prefer Tap Water or Other. A total of 99% of the respondents rated water as either Excellent (83.9%) or Good.

  • Special Events
    Poseidon has sponsored and/or participated in over 50 public events in the past two years, including runs/walks, street fairs, local business expos and golf tournaments.

  • Speakers Bureau
    Poseidon representatives have made presentations to more than 200 community forums in the past two years.
